Calligaris Group acquires Fatboy
Calligaris Group continues its growth process and strengthens its portfolio by acquiring 100% of Fatboy the Original

Manzano, 05th August 2021 - Calligaris Group, the leading Italian group in the global furniture business, announces that today it has finalized the acquisition of 100% of Fatboy, the iconic Netherlands based lifestyle brand.

Fatboy was founded in Den Bosch (Holland) in 2002 and immediately recognized for the iconic oversized bean bag designed by Finnish interior architect Jukka Setala. Since its foundation, the business developed from offering the original bean bag to a cross-category design brand with an outspoken collection of lighting, indoor & outdoor furniture and distinctive accessories. Today the company has a turnover of more than 50 million, half of it generated online.

With the acquisition of Fatboy, Calligaris Group will add an iconic brand to its portfolio and will benefit from Fatboy’s digital capabilities and its solid, proven experience in the omnichannel strategy.
The Group will aim to become more present in the outdoor sector, which is a strength of the Dutch Company, while Fatboy, with the support of Calligaris Group, aims to expand its global presence. Moreover, this partnership will leverage both companies’ industrial operations expertise, to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of their supply chain.
Fatboy is the first non-Italian company to join Calligaris Group.

“We have had a good journey with Vendis Capital over the last 4.5 years. We have managed to boost sales and profits, grown the Fatboy brand, and at the same time strengthened our organization and ways of working to ensure a scalable company for the future. The partnership with Calligaris will help us to continue our journey, allowing us to do what we do best: add a smile to life with our innovative, bold designs” says Petra Vos, CEO of Fatboy.

“We are thrilled to work with the Fatboy team who will bring their deep knowledge of the digital world and a proven experience in the outdoor sector, boosting our Group towards new goals” declared Stefano Rosa Uliana, CEO of Calligaris Group. "We are honored to welcome such an iconic design brand to the Calligaris Group family and we are excited to experience the next evolutionary phase of the Group together. We were immediately in tune with Fatboy, we have many things in common, first of all attention to sustainability ".

The acquisition of Fatboy is also part of the value creation strategy of Alpha, a pan-European private equity fund that acquired the majority stake in Calligaris Group in September 2018. Paolo Magni, partner of Alpha in the Milan office, who worked on the transaction said: "We are very happy to welcome in Calligaris Group an iconic brand like Fatboy, which is mainly characterized by innovation, sustainability and significant exposure to digital channels. The operation will allow us to develop important commercial and product synergies, as well as take a further step in our project to create an international and diversified leader in the furniture and lifestyle sector "
