Calligaris Group acquires FatboyCompany
Manzano, 05th August 2021 - Calligaris Group, the leading Italian group in the global furniture business, announces that today it has finalized the acquisition of 100% of Fatboy, the iconic Netherlands based lifestyle brand.
Fatboy was founded in Den Bosch (Holland) in 2002 and immediately recognized for the iconic oversized bean bag designed by Finnish interior architect Jukka Setala. Since its foundation, the business developed from offering the original bean bag to a cross-category design brand with an outspoken collection of lighting, indoor & outdoor furniture and distinctive accessories. Today the company has a turnover of more than 50 million, half of it generated online.
With the acquisition of Fatboy, Calligaris Group will add an iconic brand to its portfolio and will benefit from Fatboy’s digital capabilities and its solid, proven experience in the omnichannel strategy.
The Group will aim to become more present in the outdoor sector, which is a strength of the Dutch Company, while Fatboy, with the support of Calligaris Group, aims to expand its global presence. Moreover, this partnership will leverage both companies’ industrial operations expertise, to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of their supply chain.
Fatboy is the first non-Italian company to join Calligaris Group.

The acquisition of Fatboy is also part of the value creation strategy of Alpha, a pan-European private equity fund that acquired the majority stake in Calligaris Group in September 2018.
